How to displace an alpha male?

Does it depend on whether you are an alpha or beta male? I am an alpha male. Do I just have to "out-alpha" the other guy? Here's the thing: I want to do this in a discrete way without alerting the woman I'm after of what's going on. This is hard for me considering I usually do things in the alpha way. Any advice?
